Are You Having Enough Fun?

March 31, 20263 min read

Well, if you are, excellent.
But if you’re not, here’s a reason.

A real reason.

The root cause of boredom is something called phenomenology.

Your mind has evolved to categorise the world into things it understands and knows what to do with. So even though new experiences may be available, the brain tends to filter what you’re seeing and feeling through the lens of what it has already experienced, and then quietly place it into an existing category.

And the trouble with that is simple. Once something is placed into a category you already know, it no longer feels new.

And it is new experiences that create excitement. New experiences that create aliveness. New experiences that make life feel interesting, engaging, worth leaning into.

This is the difference between us and small children. They haven’t yet categorised everything. So much of what they encounter is genuinely new. And because of that, they live with a natural sense of openness, optimism, novelty, surprise and wonder.

Now when that sense of surprise and wonder moves through the body, something very real happens. Certain points open. Certain channels activate. Certain organs are stimulated.

The physiology of fun is actually quite simple. And it is closely linked to new experience.

So in this workshop, which by the way is already sold out, all twenty places filled, we work with that directly. If you booked, wonderful. If you didn’t, I’m afraid you missed it this time.

What we do is this. Through movement, through qigong, through shamanic sequences you haven’t done before, through unfamiliar dance steps, through rhythm and sound that affect the brain in a particular way, we give the body combinations of sensation it does not already recognise.

And in doing that, we gently subvert the mind’s constant need to categorise everything.

So instead of saying I know this, the system pauses and says this is new.

And when the body recognises something as new, it responds accordingly. Circulation shifts. Energy moves. The system begins to express qualities like joy, playfulness, optimism, surprise and connection.

That is what we are doing.

There is also a strong relationship here with the fire element. Fire is warmth, connection, sociability and light. It brightens things. It brings people together. It moves, it changes, it lifts. And yes, it can burn, so we keep it intelligent and measured.

And once we’ve built that energy, we don’t leave you there. We come down. We settle. We balance it out with yin yoga, allowing everything to integrate, soften and land properly.

Now zoom out for a moment.

When you look at the longest-living populations in the world, the ones who don’t just live longer but live well, with energy, clarity and connection, certain patterns show up again and again.

They move their bodies regularly.
They stay socially connected.
And they prioritise enjoyment.

Not occasionally. Consistently.

Movement. Connection. Enjoyment.

In other words, they keep the fire element alive.

This is not accidental. It is part of how the body stays open, responsive and engaged with life.

So if this resonates with you, and you want to move towards that kind of strength, vitality and quality of life, then come and join us.

The Vitality Academy is where we train these systems properly, in a structured, progressive way, with people who are doing the same.
