New York: Ex race mare saying NO!

When Horses Choose, WHC, Clinic, NY

Sometimes a horse will speak out loud, to communicate about their past and traumas - in order to get to the other side.

In New York we met this ex race horse, a mare. We trained with many horses on the same ranch and we were able to ride them all bitless and in a cordeo.

However, this one horse, was not ready to freely accept a rider in the few days we were there. And I think, if she says 'no' several times in a training session, we need to respect this.

This mare was easy to work with from the ground and likely therefore her 'no' has to do with old injuries and pain when ridden. Wen a following horse says 'no' to part of the training, like accepting the rider, it is most often because of pain.

She was an abused race horse and we know that they are also typically started too young in riding and they will have a lot of injuries in their bodies.

Luckily she now lives a good life in a herd in a Paddock Paradise. Just like I would wish for all rescue horses.
