The Start of a Bigger Story

My story begins with something as ordinary as an errand for sugar. But for me, it became the moment that changed everything.

As a child, I witnessed my father brutally beat my mother. Clinging to her dress as she fled for help, I begged her not to leave me. At her friend’s house, the adults coaxed me away with a task: “Go buy sugar for tea.”

I obeyed, innocent and trusting. But when I returned, my mother was gone. No one told me where she was or why she had left. I was left devastated, convinced that I wasn’t loved enough or good enough to be chosen.

That silence planted deep seeds of abandonment, distrust, and self-doubt. I grew up overperforming, fighting to be valued, striving for fairness, and carrying a relentless fear of rejection.

How the Wound Became My Fire

Yet even in the pain, I gained gifts: the ability to listen deeply, to communicate with empathy, and to support others in ways I once needed myself. Those qualities shaped my career in healthcare. I rose from Licensed Practical Nurse to Registered Nurse to Family Nurse Practitioner, eventually serving as a decorated Colonel. My résumé spoke of achievement, but behind the accolades, I was still fighting the same battle — exhaustion, perfectionism, imposter syndrome, and the longing to be seen.

My Mission Now

Over time, I realized that my story wasn’t just about survival. It was about transformation. I learned how to rebuild resilience, reframe self-talk, and reclaim energy in ways that no degree or title could give me.
